do you really want to be with me
or are you just to afraid to leave me
do you dance naked in the moonlight
or curl up with a wool blanket, socks on
can you join the revolution
or will you find another show
on netflix
click, click, click
as life passes by

trust me, he said
as he drove the back plow
that dozed over the sturdy embankment
of endless
memories and dreams...
now mere pebbles
lining the river's shore
enduring the hostile, wicked stream

i sit before the lonely man
wno tells me
bereft
that he lost his father in the holocaust
that i too
mourn for his father
and for every father mother and child
lost in every holocaust across the world
across time
i weep every time a child's limb
is torn from her body
the violent carnage that rips our guts
and tries to steal our souls

The mother sings
as feet dance in unison
around the table

The mother hears them wail
when the earth moves
and there is nowhere left
for their feet

The mother knows
when silence is broken

and suffers
when she takes the children home

when the mother is angry

everyone should run for their lives

the first kiss

wild reckless abandon
soulful passion
only one language
when the heart speaks

no boundaries
no borders
truth envelops
and the body says yes

to love

I have a client originally from Nairobi. She has been here since she was about 8, living in toronto and found herself involved with some bad men. she fled to london and sought out help. i left her for a moment.
when i came back she had a strange smile. then she said 'you have been to africa'. 'yes', i said, 'how did you know?'... 'you left your shoes', she said...'and the elephants'....i explained to her that i've never been very good at keeping my shoes on and that the elephants are my ancestors.
she said 'i can tell that your spirit is good. i feel safe'.
i was wearing my flip flops from tanzania...the ones that the local shoe cobbler thought i was crazy for paying $60 to have re soled...i had worn them out. he told me they weren't worth that much. i told him they were worth that and more and to please just do the fucking work. not one bead has ever fallen off. my magic shoes.
at the school board i would have been written up for wearing footwear that violated a policy...funny how life works...today they helped me save a woman's life.
